About the shoot (as told by Madeleen)
Our love story is a bit of a cliché starting with love at first sight… and later, Matthews’s proposal at Cape Town International Airport after returning from a work trip abroad. We tied the knot in April 2009 at Khululeka Retreat, Wild Coast, 1000km away from home. As we did not hire a professional photographer to cover our wedding day so decided to do a shoot with our wedding attire three and a half years later!
Khulukela Retreat, being a self catering lodge and not a wedding venue, caused some convincing to serve as the venue for our special day. They agreed on condition that I would handle the whole project and day’s organization myself from start to finish. Being a Graphic Designer (Creative Director of Abundance Designs) and professional photographer, this became my most special theme design project to date. From invites, stationary, pottery hearts, flower and table arrangements to finding the best chef for this occasion. I did it all.
Here with the photos taken three and a half years later…
And here with some of the original photos taken by friends and family on their wedding day…
I highly recommend it to all married couples to do a couples shoot again! Pictures are there to remind us of those special moments in life! – Madeleen

about the author
I am a creative at heart, who likes being surrounded by pretty things. My new house was the main inspiration for Lovilee, finding time to prettify, paint and ponder about change. Coffee, lavender, numbers, the color purple and my jeans inspire me. I believe that you should do what you love and love what you do! -
