Two years ago, my sister-in-law, Kathryn and I started discussing the idea to have an online gift shop stocking products that are unique, charming and with a touch of vintage. We wanted our online shop to be professional yet offer that personal touch. It has been a wonderful (and challenging) journey but we have learnt so much about sourcing products, branding, website design and IT. I used to be a financial manager in corporate and after having my first son I decided that I didn’t want to be driving into the city every day (from Melkbosstrand) and juggling work deadlines and children. I also wanted to do something a little more creative.
 
When I fell pregnant with the second son I decided to resign and work on our  business idea that we had been researching for a year. Kathryn is consulting in corporate and will be joining me full-time in the near future.

We have found some lovely local suppliers, namely Peg and Thread, Nocturnal Affair, Mu and Me and Dolly Dinkle. We are amazed at how much talent there is in South Africa. We have imported the rest of our products to ensure that we have a unique selection of gifts. At the beginning of February this year, we finally launched our online gift shop, Heart and Home and we’ve had a wonderful response so far.

Heart and Home offers a complimentary gift wrapping service and each gift is wrapped in a red and white polka dot gift wrap and tied with a red Petersham ribbon. We also attach our customised “Special Wishes” gift tag with the personalised message.
