A colourburst wedding {Someday Soon}

Stefan + Chantel tied the knot at Freedom Hill Estate in Franschhoek, with views of the picturesque Wemmershoek Mountains. It was a colourburst wedding coordinated by Marli Mouton from Someday Soon. Marli literally took over most of the planning for the day a year before the event as the couple were based in Australia. Western Cape based, Monica Dart Photography was there to capture some lovilee images on the day.

How did you meet?
We met in the boardroom! At work that is. When I met Stefan for the first time, I was immediately attracted to his deep blue eyes and sophisticated “silver” hair. He came across a little “blasé” at first, not indicating any interest in me whatsoever (playing it very cool….). He moved to Brisbane after being in central Queensland for two years, and we “bumped” into each other at work more often. A few coffee dates here and there, a few dinner dates here and there, and so our love began.

Tell us more about the proposal?
Stefan proposed on 29th Feb 2012. He was home sick with a stomach bug. He Never takes sick so I was quiet worried that day. When I got home, I popped into the kitchen to make him some toast and weak tea, the caring girlfriend I am. We were having a chat about the 29th being leap year and how I will need to wait another 4 years if I wanted to be the one to propose. He candidly said that I should ask him, but I laughed it off, teasing and saying I wasn’t entirely sure I wanted to marry him. He then took the ring out of him pocket and said: “Not even if I give you this?” And of course, I said yes.

Were there any DIY details on the wedding?
One that sticks in my mind… We so dearly wanted the golden pears for placeholders. There is a company that sells them in Brisbane for the equivalent of R4 each, pretty cheap! So we bought them but it was too late to ship them to Marle. We ended up having to take them in our luggage on the flight. When the scanned the bags, they made us open the suitcases because they thought we were taking 70 edible pears to South Africa. I remember the security officer asking me if we don’t get any pears in South Africa.

Any advice for engaged couples?
Get a wedding coordinator!! Very important. And everyone says this, but really, savor each moment of the day. When you walk down the isle, look at him only, forget the cameras and the other smiling faces, he will never look at you this way again. Stand back at the end of the night, glance over the dancefloor, look at your friends and family, and remember their faces. Listen to the kind words during the speeches, and don’t get distracted by the small stuff!
