This & That

Little Sweetheart party {LV Star}

Lee-Ann from LV Star photography captured Vera’s first birthday. The theme was a Little Sweetheart party, the perfect theme for a little princess! Grey and Yellow is one of my favourite colour schemes at the moment, so when I saw this party I just had to share. Two other things that I really liked about this party was the little cupboard that was used as a treasure chest of goodies for the little ones and off-course, the adult candy table!

What was the inspiration behind the theme and colours?
Many moons ago I {mommy, Lizelee} saw the most beautiful fabric in colours of yellow and grey and have loved the colour combination ever since. I just knew I was going to choose a grey and yellow colour scheme for our little girl’s first birthday party, no matter the theme. I had quite a few hardboard hearts that I used as decorations on a previous occasion and decided to use them again and have a “Little Sweetheart” theme for the party.

Were there any DIY projects on the day?
Almost all of this party was put together with DIY projects. By making use of paint, fabrics, scrapbooking paper and ribbon all in different variations of yellow, grey and white I was able to tie together what I already had with the things I bought.

The previously painted pink hearts were repainted with craft paints in grey, white and yellow. Some were covered with leftover scrapbooking paper.

I used a heart design paper punch and card stock paper to make little hearts to dangle and paste on every place I saw fit to strengthen the theme of the party. I used wooden letters and tiny little hearts bought at an arts and crafts shop to personalize the little guests heart placemats. I covered them in a pretty light grey gift wrapping paper and contact plastic.

As there were only four little girls in total it was not too much of an undertaking to put a lot of detail in the packaging of their eats and treats, so I repackaged it in cellophane bags and used a grey stripe washi tape to close it back up. Ribbon and smoothed out raffia were tied around most things.

I made a table runner for the little party table out of a grey stripe fabric and little cushions for little touches from a yellow check fabric. Leftover fabric I stuck around the plastic cool drink bottles. I also made the tablecloth for the deserts table, the carrot cake, the birthday cake with fondant roses, the hand piped “lace” design cookies and clipped the hedge to 90 degree angles. I will omit the rest. Elaborating more than that on the DIY might make some people side with my wonderful husband whom I drive crazy every year come party time. He reckons from next year we are celebrating all birthdays at the Spur. I think it’s a great idea… NOT!
