Western Cape Woodlands Wedding

Glen and Kelly had a woodlands wedding that took just under eight months to plan, at Langverwagt in the Western Cape. As Kelly is a wedding planner by profession, she took charge of the admin side of the day. She had a checklist and made sure they were doing things that took priority. The ceremony took place at the Connect Church in Meadowridge. There to photograph their special day was the lovilees of Love Made Visible.

The couple, who met through mutual friends at church got engaged a few weeks before their five year anniversary, Glen suggested they go on a picnic with friends. They ended up arriving at this picnic “early”. Whilst looking for a perfect picnic spot on the beach, Kelly saw some Bananagrams tiles spelling out the phrase “I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you”. As she turned she found Glen down on one knee, ring in hand. He said some lovilee things and asked Kelly to marry him! What followed was a day that Glen had planned just for her. He had put together an entire day just to celebrate their engagement and it was really special.

Deciding on the colours
My favourite colour is pink so that was my only non-negotiable, which Glen was happy with. We wanted to get married in Autumn so we embraced it by adding in gold. So our blush pink and champagne gold colour scheme was an ode to Autumn.

DIY details
We had gold touches in our wedding so we collected hundreds of leaves and spray-painted them gold so we could use them in our ceremony backdrop. Our banquet style tables had hessian table cloths which we cut out of large pieces of hessian. We had gold spray-painted deer, jam jars filled with candles, and all our stationary was designed by us. Instead of flowers we had mini Juniper trees that we put on the tables and also used as wedding favours for our guests. We covered the little tree pots in pink/beige material and tied that together with pink ribbon.

Advice for brides-to-be
Don’t let wedding planning take over your life. Set aside one day each week to plan your wedding and keep it up until you get closer to the big day and you start having more things to do each week. Get your family and friends involved in the planning and in the decor making. That’s what they’re there for!
