Wedding inspiration

Greek country celebration

Tabitha Mee at Illuminate Photography captured Nicholas and Anastasia’s Greek country celebration that took place at Rockhaven Farm in Elgin, Western Cape. The olive branches and natural elements used at this wedding created a soft pallet of prettiness!

The couple met the old fashioned way – through mutual friends. In January 2014, after five years of being together, they moved to Hong Kong. Following a couple of months of hard work, they booked their first holiday flights to Bali. On the small island of Lembongan, while enjoying dessert on our bungalow veranda, Nick asked Anastasia to marry him. The answer was obviously the affirmative.

Choosing the colour palette was difficult! But we resorted back to the weddings that featured in our childhood dreams. These had stood the test of time, and clearly were meaningful to us. We knew that an abundance of flowers would be the starting point and Rockhaven, the venue, provided ample natural beauty to gain inspiration from.

How long did the wedding planning take?
We understood that planning a wedding from Hong Kong would present some obstacles, the six hour time difference being the most onerous. Thankfully, we organised a phenomenal wedding planner, Theresa Lazarevic of Creation Events, quite early in the process. The actual wedding planning perhaps took about six months, although that was dispersed over a period of one and a half years.

Tell us more about the DIY details?
We were spoilt enough to have a variety of gifted, creative people who were happy to get involved:

  • Lindy, the mother of the bride, made the bunting for the boat house.
  • Nick, the groom, made the table runners and boutounierres.
  • Annette, the maid of honour, made the wedding cake.
  • Anastasia & Nick made all of the stationary, including the invites, seating cards and menus.
  • While back in South Africa for a holiday, we bought some beautiful SA protea fabric from Easy Living in Port Alfred. Vickie’s Shoes in Hong Kong then used the fabric to create a custom shoe design for both Anastasia
    (bride) and Annette (MOH).
