The Letter Lady’s website kept me busy for quite some time, as I just browsed through all of the various different products and letters that they manufacture and supply. They specialize in hand-painted wooden letters and other décor related accessories, with all the products being 100% South African!
The company was started and is still managed by Janine a vibrant and energetic lady, passionate about what she does. Her aim is to ensure that all of the products are manufactured and painted to the highest quality standards, yet still keeping them unique with a personal touch.
What was the inspiration behind the business?
When I moved from Cape Town to PE years ago, and wanted to start a business that I could run from home. I looked at importing letters, but found that the material most of the letters were made of could break in transit. I tried to support the local people and sell their letters but the profit margins was very low and decided to start manufacturing myself.
The first letters was decorated with scrapbook paper and took over our dining room every day, and my two little girls at that stage just wanted to “help” mommy! I then started painting the letters when the girls went to play-school but I could not keep up with the demand. Today I have artists who paint my letters to my specifications and designs requested by my clients. The range has grown from wooden letters to vinyl decals and they also manufacture corporate letters.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I grew up in PE, studied Architecture, designed kitchens and then travelled Europe for a year before I settled down in Port Elizabeth. I have always done something creative with my hands as this has always given me wonderful mental stimulation!
I have two daughters, so at this moment my free time is spent with them. My work is my hobby and I believe that you have to love what you do otherwise it feels like work!
Where can lovilees purchase some of your products?
The can purchase it from the on-line store, as it shows all the products and the clients can order what they want in their own words and colour. There are pictures of all the items to view on my site as well as on the Facebook page.
