When did you realize you would like to become a graphic designer?
By mistake actually. I love fine arts and truly believed that was the path to follow. After a BA Fine Arts Degree did not materialize I applied to a college. A year foundation course in graphic design and fine arts was mandatory, before specializing in either one in the two years following.

I enjoyed the functionality of graphic design – it opened my mind to a whole new world where ideas, concepts and arts can be combined to create something unique for each client. I loved it from the first moment.

Describe yourself in one sentence.
Passionate workaholic.

Where did the name Pink Pigeon originate?
Whilst studying a friend and I wanted to begin our own business and running out of ideas for a name we took a dictionary and picked a random word – which happened to be pigeon. Then we added the pink.

How did your style develop as a graphic designer?
Hmm, tricky. Fine arts played a great part initially. After working for a short period at a stationery company it also opened my eyes to the idea that design need not be a flat 2D printed project. My intuitive feel is for balancing line, colour and function. I believe that anything even something boringly functional, can become aesthetically pleasing.

How would you describe your style?
Eye candy, pop-ish, tongue in the cheek, light-hearted. Elegant, delicate even. But not too serious.

Tell us more about wedding stationery. What advice do you have for brides?

  • Wedding stationery plays a great role in personalizing your wedding day.
  • Be upfront about your budget form the get-go. It is easier for me to suggest a variety of options to achieve a similar outcome, if I know your spend. A strict budget does not have to mean cheap, ugly stationery. You can still have beautiful stationery but we can prioritize your stationary items. For example, you can skip ‘the save the date’ and send your invitations out earlier.
  • Do your research: Do a simple Google Images or Pinterest search for ‘wedding ideas’. Show your ideas to me.
  • And ask your bridesmaids to help you out with some of the DIY’s. Everyone likes feeling part of the event.
  • Proofread, proofread, proofread. Really proofread it three times. Proofread the text before you send it to me: check the date, the names, the times, the addresses. Then ask someone else to proofread it too. And lastly proofread the first mock-up I send to you.
  • Understand how the design process works – and work with it. Otherwise you can end up paying way more. My process is: meet and greet, where you share your ideas, budget and time frame; then I create you two design ideas; now you choose your favorite, and discuss changes you want. Based on this I create your final version. etc .

Where can a bride view your work?
