Alice in Wonderland wedding

I stumbled across the following wedding on wedding stationary designer, Lezannes Designs‘ Facebook page and got in contact with Jade of Jade’ Customised Events who was responsible for the set-up, styling and assisted with the initial conceptualizing of the day together with the Bunches for Africa Weddings Team. Just loved this Alice in Wonderland wedding theme!

About the theme {as told by Jade}
Neil and Nadia’s wedding conceptualisation began at the very words of an “Alice in Wonderland experience”. Not only was the wedding to have quirky elements, but it too was to be a brightly coloured affair of pinks, alice blue, yellow and all things pretty.

The venue was the true source of inspiration for the concept. By drawing on elements of the venue’s design we were able to merge the concept with that of the venue, and ultimately bring the theme to life. Each table was designed to represent each character in the book and the movie. No part of the wedding design was left unthought of…from the flower combinations to that of the stationery, the theme’s streamlined look across the board delivered a successful result.

This wedding was absolutely gorgeous to work on, not only because all ideas were limited only by our imagination, but also, because the couple had the trust in us to deliver their concept and ideas through décor.

How the couple met {as told by the bride}
We ‘met’ in a very strange way. My sister and Neil’s cousin is married, but before my sister, Neil and his cousin were house-mates in London. Our paths would have crossed a lot earlier, but when i visited my sister in the UK, Neil came to visit in South Africa.

I heard plenty about him from my sister, but never really paid much attention, until my sister befriended him on my behalf on Facebook. We started chatting on Facebook, later on MixIT and then on voice. This continued for some time, we fell in love, even though never having seen each other in person.

On 1 Augustus 2008 Neil flew to Johannesburg. I waited for him at the airport and it was love at first sight. We just knew that this would be the forever kind of love. On 12 December ‘n loaded my car and relocated from Durban to Cape Town and now we are truly happily married!

How did Neil propose?
Neil asked me to accompany him to Bredasdorp for work. I really didn’t quite feel like going, but decided to go to keep him company. After our arrival in Bredasdorp, the ‘client’ called to cancel the appointment. I even heard the call on speaker phone, so really did not think that this was planned. I was more than a bit unhappy that they couldn’t have let us know earlier.

Neil managed to coax me into driving to Cape Agulhas. This has always had always been of special significance to us, as this is where the Indian ocean {me the durbanite} and the Atlantic {and Neil the Capetonian} meet. We walked down towards a little sign where he asked a lady and her husband to take a photo of us, and before I could even pose, he was down on one knee and popped the question! The best feeling ever!

Our wedding was everything I’d dream’t of and more… Everything just happened so easily and fell into place as it was supposed to. We wanted to do something totally different and unique, and it was!
