The cake toppers and confetti of this lovilee couples’ wedding really stood out for me! Breaking away from the traditional to add your signature to the day is the perfect way to start the rest of your life! How did you meet?
Groom: One evening after a night out on the town, I was summoned by one of my buddies to return immediately to the bar. On entering the pub I noticed an exquisitely beautiful woman out of the corner of my eye. When a friend of mine went to sit next to her, I knew this was my cue! My future wife’s first words to me were rather forward: “Looks like we’ll have to introduce ourselves…” Later I found out that she too had been dragged out by a friend and the rest is a mere memory as we’ve been inseparable ever since.
How did you propose?
Groom: I remembered from when we first started dating that Christel had never been to the top of Table Mountain. I told her that we were gonna go for a ‘destination unknown’ picnic for her birthday, for which I gave her a picnic cooler bag as a present. En route to the picnic I told her that we had to stop off at a shop, where she could fill the basket with anything she wanted. We left the shop, with her constantly trying to guess where we were heading.
She guessed the destination as we drove up Table Mountain road. Once on top we walked around till we found the a spot, overlooking Camps Bay. The picnic, weather and everything was perfect. I told my wife I wanted to get some pics of the bay behind us and said we needed to stand by the ledge. As she stood up I went down on one knee and proposed…..she said yes 🙂 I will never forget her smile!
How did you decide on your weddings’ colours?
Bride: I always liked the colour pink, therefore I decided on a rustic pink with maroon, adding just a dab of silver. Using pink on its own felt too feminine adding maroon gave the palette depth. If it was up to my husband, the theme would have been blue and the day was quite chilly already. I would go for the pink again and again ’cause it’s such a pretty and comfortable colour’. If it wasn’t for tradition I would have incorporated it in the bridal gown, but my bridesmaids had the honour!
Do you have any advice to share with brides-to-be?
Budget, budget, budget! Most couples will always exceed their initial budget. Unless you’re already married, you won’t really know how high some of the quotes and costs can be.
It was the little things that threw us off. Combine various ‘to do’ lists into a single one. These can be lists you receive from friends or ones you find on-line. Shop around for good prices. We had an amazing florist and an excellent but affordable photographer capturing all the priceless moments. I like the Afrikaans saying: ‘Goeie goed is skaars!’
Was the Groom involved in the wedding preparations?
He was the best groom-to-be that any bride can ask for. He was my co-planner right from the start, deciding on the date and venue ’till the very end. The day before the wedding was quite stressful – He was there to comfort and make last minute calls. This is one of many reasons I love him so much. No fear when my husband is near, because he always finds a way!
