The Irene Village Market is an art market that takes place on the second and last Saturday of each month from 09:00–14:00 on the day. The market stalls are set on the green lawns of the Smuts House Museum, a venue located 40 km North of Johannesburg. This lovilee event has been held since the late 1980s and has earned wide acclaim both as a superb outdoor shopping venue and a welcome escape from city life.
The market offers everything from art and craft to clothing, eats, antiques, flowers and curios. Only original art and craft are traded at the Irene Village Market. Exhibitors and their wares undergo a strict selection process.
Kaleidoscopes by ColourVISION
It aims to offer excellent family entertainment whilst contributing to the rich historic and natural heritage of Irene Village. The market also boasts guarded parking, safe entertainment for the young ones, a tea garden and various other food stalls as well as over 300 exhibits.

“To provide a marketplace for the artist and home entrepreneur, a forum promoting art and craft, as well as quality family recreation while contributing to the cultural-historic and natural heritage of the village of Irene.”
The market provides for nature-lovers who can enjoy the 3km Smuts’ Trail through the surrounding grassland which is home to over 300 bird species and a wide array of indigenous flora. For the Kids it offers an array of entertainment from pony and camel rides, to candle-making, jumping castles and many of other activities. The aim of these activities are meant to keep the little ones safely occupied whilst Mom and Dad do their shopping.
So why not pay the market a visit, it is a perfect place to do some Christmas shopping or just go for a family outing!
