Attending the Sanlam Handmade Contemporary (FoodWineDesign) Fair

If you’ve never attended the Sanlam Handmade Contemporary (FoodWineDesign) Fair that celebrated it’s fifth year this year, you are truly missing out. Good food, tasty treats and handmade designs was at the forefront of this fair, that took place on the Hyde Park Corner rooftop.

Upon entering the roof area we were welcomed by a botanical bonanza, the creations of landscaper Greg Straw of Earth Architectural Design whom Artlogic partnered with this year to transform the cement rooftop into a plant-filled wonderland. The featured designer for 2014 was Joe Paine. With his focus on planters and outdoor furniture, he is an obvious choice for this year’s event, thanks to the exploding Botanicals trend.

There were over 100 exhibitors, each of them hand-picked with the focus on the best and most unique. There was literally something for everyone. The design stalls included ceramics, furniture, home décor and leather items with the food stalls including coffee roasters, artisan foods and other delicious delicacies. Photographer Carike Ridout attended the opening day with me and took some gorgeous images for me to spoil you with!

We opted for lunch from Chefs in the City. Three of SA’s top chefs, David Higgs of the Saxon Boutique Hotel, Michael Holenstein from De Hoek Country House, and Thom Hughes of the Griffin, Perron and Steamworks collaborated on this project. The food was delicious!
