Pretty DIY Wedding

Adrian & Claudine Tied the knot at Ukuphupha in the Eastern Cape in a pretty DIY wedding affair. The day was photographed by PE based photographer, Charlie Ray Photography. The couple met when Claudine reunited with an old friend whom she hadn’t seen in years. Once night they decided to go out on the town and this friend decided to bring along his work colleague, they met and it was instant chemistry.

The proposal
My (Claudine) granny was very ill and my mom and aunt wanted to sell her 18c diamond ring to help pay for her hospice care. What I didn’t know was that they sold this ring to Adrian. On the day of the proposal Adrian made me breakfast in bed, we were planning on going to Jeffreys Bay for the weekend. Little to my knowledge Adrian had better plans in stall.

After breakfast he cleared the plates and told me he had bought me a present. He went to his secrete hiding spot and brought out a medium sized gift bag with a very well known jewelers name printed in gold on the one side of the bag. I thought to myself – this is it! I took a look inside the gift bag and there was a large jewelry box inside – I was rather disappointed. I opened up the box and inside the box there was a beautiful gold crucifix. Adrian told me I need to try it on – I pulled the necklace out of the box and to my surprise there was my Granny’s engagement ring.

After all the tears of happiness, Adrian told me that the necklace belonged to his Granny. Thereafter he whisked me away to Knysna for the long weekend.

The couple spent a good five months working on all the elements for the wedding with the groom being hands on all the way. The entire wedding was filled with DIY from start to finish, DIY’s included:

  • The stationery items designed by the bride.
  • Venue decor – the center pieces, the guest books, the table runners for each table – all hand made.
  • The wedding cake was baked and iced by the mother of the bride.
  • Bouquets for myself and my bridesmaids – all self made.
  • Ties for the Bridal Party – hand made.
  • Bridesmaid and Flower girl dresses all hand made by the mother of the bride.
  • Handmade birdcage veil.

This day is suppose to be the happiest day of your life – remember that you are there to marry your best friend, it is not all about the party and what other people think. If something goes wrong – you are the only person that will notice, so really don’t stress about it.
