Top Honeymoon destinations in 2015

Marriage is an important milestone for couples, a life-binding promise between two people for an entire life. Whilst getting married is one of the most exciting experiences for two loved ones, the process and pre-wedding arrangements can be slightly daunting. A holiday away will allow you and your partner to celebrate your marriage without the worry of seating plans or what three-course menu your guests will receive.

A honeymoon away will allow you to bring back memories that you and your partner will treasure for the rest of your lives together, an exciting and indulgent journey of romantic, unforgettable moments to take home together as husband and wife. Yet then, you may ask yourself, where would be the perfect honeymoon destination?

Morocco

SPRING

If you’re looking for a mix of adventure and relaxation, these springtime destinations are perfect for newlyweds; whether you’re looking to unwind together on a tropical beach, visit extraordinary ancient ruins or explore the underwater in a snorkelling adventure.

  1. Morocco
You can be alone together, in the beautiful, empty desert, the Atlas Mountains or the teeming bazaars of Marrakech.
INSIDER TIP: Discover Marrakesh and the surrounding Berber hamlets by hot-air balloon. The unusual flight will allow you to have superb panoramic views over the small villages with a stunning backdrop of mountains. (Image by Natalie Tamara)
  2. Guatemala & Belize
These locations boast an irresistible mix of white sand beaches and kaleidoscopic marine life with pre-Columbian archaeological sites shrouded by thick vegetation.
INSIDER TIP: In Guatemala, take time to visit the colourful Mayan market in Chichicastenango which is held every Thursday and Sunday. Then head to Casa Palopo, the most romantic hotel near the shores of Lake Atitlan to soak up the breath-taking scenery.
  3. Mexico
Mexico will offer you an unforgettable mixture of relaxed days on white sandy beaches and the opportunity to explore the Aztec and Mayan civilisations.
INSIDER TIP: Save enough time to visit the Sian Ka’an Reserve on the Mayan Riviera for a wildlife fix off the beaten track. Imagine travelling to a lagoon by private boat in search of manatees, where you will be able to spot caiman along with a variety of tropical birds.

SRI

SUMMER

Summer is the ideal season to experience the diverse pleasures of the next destinations: the culture and beach resorts of Sri Lanka, the tropical paradise of Bora Bora in the South Pacific, the wildlife in Tanzania and the exotic island of Zanzibar.

  1. Tanzania & Zanzibar
If you’re looking for a safari adventure, then the Serengeti with its range of national parks are abundant with wildlife. For those looking for culture and beach, head over to the beautiful Spice Islands’ of Zanzibar.
INSIDER TIP: For one of your nights on safari, head out into the bush and enjoy a night under the stars ‘fly camping’. Falling asleep to the sounds of cicadas or the call of a hyena in the distance really will be a magical experience and one you will never forget.
  2. Sri-Lanka
Sri Lanka, the tropical teardrop at the foot of India, has a cultural heritage spanning from ancient civilisations to colonial times coupled with beach resorts and people born with everlasting smiles.
INSIDER TIP: If your honeymoon falls in July or August, your trip will coincide perfectly with the Perahera Festival, a historical procession held annually to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha in Kandy. Head to the east coast and stay at Jungle Beach or Uga Bay and enjoy the great beach weather.
  3. Moorea & Bora Bora
French Polynesia, a collection of 118 islands and atolls scattered across a vast empty ocean of bright-emerald waters and white coral-sand beaches.
INSIDER TIP: To get the very best views of the island of Bora Bora whilst flying in, make sure to sit of the left hand side of the plane.

Caribbean

AUTUMN

Embark on your new life together by taking an unforgettable adventure to South Africa and Mauritius, the Caribbean or Oman. Start your married life by discovering the exhilarating natural world, with thrilling walks and exotic wildlife and romantic evenings dining under the stars.

  1. South Africa & Mauritius
From the bush to the beach, enjoy the glorious sun and scenic routes that South Africa and Mauritius have to offer.
INSIDER TIP: Catch a late afternoon cable car ride up Table Mountain and enjoy one of the world’s best sunsets. Take your own sundowners and make an evening of it!
  2. Oman
Oman prides its century old desert culture, its star strewn sky and endless white sands. All of which will make this the most romantic of honeymoons.
INSIDER TIP: Indulge in a bespoke desert safari trip just for the two of you. Drive to Bani Khalid, one of the most dramatic wadis in Oman where you can enjoy a picnic lunch in the shade of the cliffs. Then try your hand at sand boarding or off-road driving.
  3. The Carribean
Combine turquoise waters and remarkable (often volcanic) landscapes with super luxurious hotels and a laidback culture, and it’s no wonder the Caribbean continues to capture the hearts of honeymooners.
INSIDER TIP: For a Robinson Crusoe experience, Rosewood Little Dix Bay in the British Virgin Islands will arrange a complimentary water taxi to one of the many deserted beaches with snorkelling equipment and a fabulous gourmet picnic lunch.

Laos

WINTER

A winter wedding doesn’t mean an icy honeymoon. In fact, December to January are perfect months to explore Brazil, Southern India, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. Hand-in-hand, throw yourselves into a romantic and wildly different experience as husband and wife.

  1. Brazil
Brazil offers dazzling waterfalls, world class beaches, mouth-watering street food and fascinating cities.
INSIDER TIP: Travel like a true Brazilian by bike to Sugarloaf Mountain with a private guide. You can stop en-route and enjoy some of the local Brazilian juices, such as acai and immerse yourselves in the street markets. The majority of the bike ride will be along the sun-soaked beachfront taking in Ipanema, Copacabana, Botafogo and Flamenco.
  2. Laos, Cambodia & Thailand
If you’re looking to plunge yourself into a world of natural beauty and enchanted walks with ancient ruins, then these locations will leave you speechless.
INSIDER TIP: When visiting Luang Prabang in Laos, head over to the 3 Nagas for some delicious dishes, freshly prepared oozing authenticity. Whilst tasting foods of their tradition, you can sit al-fresco under the mango trees or inside with the comfort of air-conditioning. (images by Melanie Wessels Photography)
  3. Southern India
A feast for all the senses – sights, colours, fragrances, tastes and sounds surround you – all at the slow tempo of Southern India.
INSIDER TIP: Coincide your stay in Mysore with the illumination of the magnificent City Palace on Sunday evenings. The interior is equally worth a visit, for its spacious halls, paintings and architecture.
