JD & Simónne Herbst got married in the lovely Low-veld next to the Crocodile river, with the reception looking out over the Kruger National Park. It was a beautiful day with even a family of elephants coming to say hello. The decor on the tables was something fresh and different which made me want to feature this wedding. Centurion based, Marné Photography was there to capture their special day.
The couple both love the Kruger National Park and wanted to have an outdoor wedding. The decor had to
be natural but eccentric and Annahes Event decorators
created that look perfectly. Every element complemented the other, nothing was too over the top and it suited the natural theme with some winter colors. Used as part of the decor were succulents that the couple cultivated specially for the wedding in the 5 months they spent on planning their wedding.
Tell us your love story
I was still in school when I met JD, who is two years older – he was my sisters boyfriend’s friend. Two years later we ended up in the same Economics class. Long nights in the library lead to a relationship of just over four years.
The proposal took place on a weekend away with close friends in the bush veld. We were out on an early morning hunt dressed in our hunting clothes with no makeup. 400m from the gate we saw the first Impalas, the “hunters” got off and the rest of us drove a little further. The game viewing vehicle came to a sudden halt – JD got out and said we had some trouble. I jumped out, grabbed a knife for protection and as I came around the bakkie, I saw him on one knee. All I could get out was “is it my ring”??? Tears, laughter and Champagne followed.
Do you have any advice for other engaged couples?
Do what makes YOU (as a couple) happy. Its YOUR day. Get different opinions and then decide on what you want, together. And most importantly. Don’t overthink anything. It will be the best and most beautiful day of your lives, no matter what happens.
