When Nicolene introduced Natasha Tonkin as the winner of the contest, I was struck by her resemblance to the fairytale character Snow White. So when she and Lloyd opted for Hertford Country Hotel as the backdrop to the shoot, and chose a stunning grey dress from Silver Swallow Design, we had to set the stage for a real life, modern day fairytale with a hint of drama and playfulness.

About the couple
Lloyd and I (Natasha) met at the gym (a real cliché). But I remember the first time I saw him, my knees went weak, and I thought to myself he must be the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen. I remember going home after seeing him and thinking to myself how on earth am I going to get this man into my life, and if I succeed, why on earth would he be interested in me? Well, turns out, he thought I was cute, and he loved my dark brown hair and eyes. It was on our very first date that I knew my heart found the one I’ve been searching for. And a year later, we eloped!

Marriage comes with so many ups and downs, and unfortunately for us, the downs were significant because we kept our marriage quite for some time. So you could only imagine the hurt our family had to go through. And even after all the hurt was healed, we still faced some of the troubles many married couples do. But I do believe that our love can survive anything, and it has. We will be celebrating our 4th anniversary soon! I look at Lloyd now and know, now more than ever, that he is the one for me. He is my best friend, my shoulder to cry on, my leader in all things. He is my hero, my husband. I love you.

Table and wedding decor
The decor and flowers were done by Lace and Whimsy. I am head over heels with the use of the skull with flowers and have featured a blue shibori styled shoot with one before. Eucalyptus branches laid the foundation for the whimsical feel with pops of reds and even the use of vegetables like beetroot for the table decor.

“The pristine white finishing of the venue begged for dramatic splashes of colour, red being the only option in my opinion to emphasise Natasha’s classical beauty. Roses for romance, eucalyptus, and various indigenous fynbos variants made up the arrangements and floral décor elements, such as the focus arrangement on the “breakfast” table, floral chair swags and a bouquet for our lovely model.

Lloyd pinned a traditional boutonniere with a small paper succulent accent and Natasha had a feminine floral comb, even our wildebeest friend sported his own floral crown of sorts.

To tie all the elements together we also decided to use hand dyed fabric runners in a grey tone to complement the dress and further drew on the grey tones by casting cement candle sticks and added grey paper succulents to arrangements.

Furthermore we made an informal table setting and paired it with locally sourced bread, cheeses, berries, olives and fresh herbs instead of any traditional sweet treats. ”
