Transforming my bedroom into a serene, stylish retreat has been on top of my to-do list for some time. I already loved the space but the picture rail above my bed started failling so I removed it and had to re-paint in any case. So… With a few thoughtful updates, I kept some of my most-loved items and added a few new ones and created a space that I am really proud of and that feels peaceful. Below I give some tips and tricks on how you can change your own bedroom into a space that you love!

Here’s my step-by-step guide to glow up your bedroom, focusing on muted, earthy off-whites with chic black accents for a timeless look.
1. Upgrade Your Headboard
A new headboard instantly becomes the focal point of your bedroom. Opt for natural materials like wood, rattan, or upholstered designs in off-white or beige – I personally like linens or textured fabrics. A visually interesting headboard can give your room an extra luxe feel and adds some warmth as well.
I purchased a Silvane headboard from Schönn Furniture. The color I decided on is ‘Beige Kidlove 26 Plaza’ with a black trim. What impressed me was that Schönn was really helpful in assisting me choose the colors and couriered me a colour chart before purchase to ensure that I was happy with my choice before final purchase was made.

2. Lighting is Key
Lighting sets the mood and can dramatically change the feel of your space. Layer different types of lighting—ambient, task, and accent—to create a cozy, inviting atmosphere. I kept my black metal Stockholm Wall lights from Iconomy (I honestly love them even more than the first day I purchased them). I really like bedside lamps that are wall mounted, they are always perfectly in place, and cannot be moved around and they are functional as well when it comes to reading in bed.
I like to use warm, soft white bulbs in my bedroom lamp fixtures as the set a neutral mood and in this case also enhance the earthy palette I opted for.
Iconomy is one of my favorite local decor stores, I also used some of their other wall mounted lamps in my guestbedroom makeover and have some of their lip shelves and a stunner of an arch ‘Ark firewood holder‘ in our tv room. #bigfan

3. Update Cupboard Knobs and Handles
Small details make a big difference. Replacing cupboard knobs and drawer pulls is a quick, affordable way to modernise your bedroom. I replaced the crystal-look old knows with black ones to compliment the touches of black throughout the room. They were purchased from H&M Home.

4. Curate Artwork
Artwork adds personality and ties your color scheme together. Choosing art for my room was easy – I had my eye on local artist, Adele Grace‘s art for a while and partly planned my color scheme around it. Her monochromatic florals stole my heart and I knew they would be the perfect fit for my room! You can view her full collection on her Instagram account @i.art.adelegrace or via the Adele Catherine website.
I added a large statement piece above my chest of drawers and created gallery like wall on some scalloped shelves with smaller pieces. I contacted Adele directly via Instagram for the pieces I ordered and the artwork did not disappoint one bit – and supporting local artists make me happy!

5. Create Pretty and Functional Spaces
Maximize your bedroom’s functionality without sacrificing style. Incorporate elements like a full-length mirror, a reading nook, or a small vanity. In my case I kept my full-length arch mirror with thin black frame from Native Decor, just because – I will never be able to part with it! It looks good, makes me look good and is a functional decor piece! Mirrors provide and reflect extra light and I feel also serve as ‘art’.
Native Decor is my go-to for all mirror items, I have native Decor mirrors, round framed and round unframed in two of our bathrooms and a pod shaped mirror from this local store. They know how to make pretty things!

6. Repaint with Muted, Earthy Colors
A fresh coat of paint can completely transform your bedroom or just give it a fresh, new feel. I did not change my wall color much, but having it freshly painted was definitely key to the ‘wow’ effect I achieved.
Two of my favorite off-white colors include:
- Dulux – Dried leaf
- Panace – Tenniscourt white (what I used here)

7. Add Finishing Touches
Complete your bedroom glow-up with soft textiles and natural accessories. Herewith some of the other items in our main bedroom:
- White linen bedding from Lifson Linen.
- Faux fur throw from Hertex Haus.
- White Side table (locker) and chest of drawers from Popstrukt. (also available via Iconomy)
- Wooden Escarpment bench from Pedersen + Lennard.
- Leopard spotted slippers from Ekamu.
- Scalloped shelves – DIY.
- Shell Scatter – Typo.
- Linen Bedfrill from Heimwee huis.

Updating your bedroom with muted, earthy tones and black accents creates a calming, sophisticated space that feels both modern and timeless. By focusing on these simple steps, you’ll achieve a glow-up that’s both stylish and uniquely personal—perfect! I would love to hear your thoughts on this make-over.
