Get Wedding Ready with Adventure Boot Camp

Adventure Boot Camp

When I heard the words ‘Adventure Boot Camp‘ – I had a vision of a drill sergeant straight out the army with high waisted pants and leather boots with a megaphone that would be screaming at me while I attempted to do a push up through crying my eyes out from pure humiliation and embarrassment as I couldn’t do the exercises. I arrived at George Lee park on Sandton early on a Monday morning in the dark and had no idea what to expect. I was waiting for these ladies to fill the room who were extreme athletes and who could do a one handed push up – In reality what happened was a bunch of amazing ladies arrived and a smiling girl Kerry introduced herself to us newbies and explained a bit if the process.

Every second day at 6am I was apart of a bunch of ladies who ran sprints, did squats and lunges, exercised muscles we had forgotten we had. At 7am (an hour later) we were done for that day – the time flew bye. The saying of time flies when having fun applies to Adventure Boot Camp – I can ensure you that not every exercise was fun (especially trying to do 40 push ups) but what was fun was making new friends, complaining together, getting stronger together.

Every day is different:

  • E.g. Monday = general body
  • Tuesday = arms and core
  • Wednesday = legs and cardio
  • Thursday = general body
  • Friday = arms and core

Adventure Boot Camp

When I started boot camp a push up was a concept that I thought I would never be able to do. It was something that only incredibly strong people could do. At the end of the four weeks lo and behold I could do a push up – not just one but 10 – yes that’s right TEN in a row!

Adventure Boot Camp pushed me out of my comfort zone but it was such an uplifting and empowering activity. Yes there were a lot of ladies stronger than me and more advanced than me but for each exercise there was a beginner option and an advanced option – the drive has to come from within and you have to tackle your demons to push yourself further. The lady in the high waisted pants and leather boots did not exist rather a fun, vibrant, bubbly instructor who pushed you but not to tears rather to smiling that you accomplished something that you never thought you could.

I have never felt so good about my body. I feel stronger and tighter. My arms no longer keep flapping when I wave they are no tight and stronger. You do not need to go to the first class of the day – there are a variety of times and locations within the country for you to attend bootcamp, they even offer a flexi option so if you are travelling on business or holiday you can keep doing your sessions wherever you are.

There are two different options a 12 or 20 session program which works out to threes day a week or a five days a week. I did the 12 session, three day program as I thought getting up that early and doing such intense exercise would be too hard five days a week! I have however just signed up for the 20 session, five day a week program, I found that I was getting irritable and grumpy by the end of my “day off” and was longing for the next morning to get going again.

If you are a person who hates the gym then Adventure Boot Camp is for you – outside in the fresh air with a bunch of like minded ladies with different activities each day – you cannot go wrong.
