This & That

A travel themed first birthday party

Heide, a school friend of mine, decided to throw her little manny a travel themed first birthday party. When little Migael was eight months old they did a family photoshoot where we used small aeroplanes as backdrop. This sparked the idea of a travel themed party. One of the images of the shoot was turned into a postcard by a friend and used as invitation. Heide opted for bright and happy colours and spent plenty of time on Pinterest for ideas!

There were plenty of DIY’ing with this party. Daddy built the red aeroplane that was used as photo booth. Little C’s Creations made the little hats and Heide added the glasses. Lientjie, also a friend, designed the invites and waterbottle stickers. Heide baked and decorated the cake. Most of the other props used that includes the suitcases and other aeroplanes were borrowed from family and friends.

Do you have any advice for mom’s planning a party for the first time?

  1. Plan ahead! Make a list of what needs to be done by when and stick to it!
  2. Give yourself ample time to organise the details. My planning took around 3 months. As a new mom, with baby that gets more active by the day it is sometimes difficult to find the time, but if you start long before and do a little something every day it can get done!
  3. Get your hubby involved… if he is willing! It is a great way to spend some time together as well.
  4. Look for ideas and finalise them, otherwise you will change your mind every other day. In the end that will just cost money and waste time. Pinterest is a great starting point, but asking creative friends and family can also go a long way!

How cute are these printables that Heide used, available for purchase on Etsy.com. A great way to keep the grownups entertained!
