A DIY that will make air drying herbs easy!

Dried herbs that you buy commercially can lack a punchy flavour and can taste bland so today I share a DIY that will make air drying your own herbs easy. Using and embroidery hoop you can create your own herb drying rack that will not only be functional but also look beautiful.

Herbs that dry best are the ones that are low in moisture like rosemary, lavendar, oregano and dill. Herbs like basil, chives and mint contain more moisture and it’s best to dry them in a dehydrator or oven as they will take longer to dry using a herb drying rack. (source)

How to air dry fresh herbs>

  1. Wash your herbs thoroughly prior to drying them. You can make use of herbs from your garden or possibly a local grocer as long as they have fairly long stems.
  2. Tie the herbs into small bunches prior to tying them onto your embroidery loop.

  4. Make sure they have enough space between each bunch – it is important that the air can circulate between them to dry them out.
  5. To hang your loop, tie three pieces of string together. You can just tie string or you can plait three strands together for a more decorative result. Tie the three stands/ plaits equidistance around the embroidery loop.
