Pedersen+Lennard is a South African decor and furniture design house focused on simple lines, functional design and timeless aesthetic. They boast a collection of modern contemporary pieces that has got me swooning. Their products include tables, chairs, storage items and even laundry baskets and bread bins to even a kids bicycle complete with bottle holder!
What I love about their products is the use of raw woods with coloured metals. A totally modern, yet old skool feel that suits virtually any homes’ interior. I personally own one of their awesome laundry bins.
The start of the Pedersen+Lennard brand
Founded by James Lennard and Luke Pedersen, their journey started way back in 2003 when they met whilst studying Industrial Design at the Cape Technikon. Fast forward a few years of study, a few more years of travel and further study abroad and they found ourselves back in Cape Town with a lot of ideas about design and the future but no jobs.
They decided to start designing a range of furniture that would help them define exactly what they saw as an opportunity for locally designed and manufactured furniture. After almost 10 years of hard work, dedication, inspiration, support from friends and family, more hard work and clients who appreciated their way of thinking they now find themselves where they are today.
Design is a very exciting place to be, being able to use creativity as a tool for change, being part of the lives of our team, clients and suppliers is a great privilege.
The Pedersen+Lennard manufacturing and furniture design process
All our their products are manufactured in their factory in Woodstock, Cape Town with the exception of the steel part of the process that is outsourced. Pedersen+Lennard shared this video with us to shed some light into the design and manufacturing process.
