Get creative with this Bow-tie Mason Drink Jar DIY

How cute are these yellow bow-tie mason jars that are perfect for use at a wedding or garden party’s drinking jars? The ‘men’ jars have bow-ties and the ‘lady’ jars have their bow-ties around their middles. Jo’burg based Wedding and Lifestyle photographer Tracey Kelsey was kind enough to take images of the step-by-step instructions for you.

What you will need:

  • Scissors
  • Burlap material / material of choice to cover the jar
  • Yellow felt / any other material that is quite stiff to make the bow-ties from
  • Glue Gun or craft glue and a paintbrush
  • Sewing needle and thread
  • 250ml Consol Glass Mason Jar{s}
  • Paper Straw{s}

How to make the bow-ties?

  1. Cut a piece of felt approximately 20cm long and 8cm wide.
  2. Cut another smaller piece of approximately 8cm long and 4cm wide.
  3. Fold the bigger piece in 3 width-wise.

  5. Now, fold the piece in half as per the image below so that the opening is in the middle back of the bow-tie. fasten the two ends together using a needle and thread.

  7. Using the smaller piece, fold it in half in the same way as the previous step, but width-wise. Place it around the bigger, sewn together piece to form a bow-tie and sew it together again.

    How to assemble the mason jars?

    1. Cut burlap material to cover the jar with, the material should just cover height of the jar and be able to around the jar. Stick the material to the mason jar using craft glue and a paintbrush or a glue gun.

    3. Position the bow-tie and stick it on with a glue gun or craft glue.

    5. Add a paper straw to finish off the jar.
