DIY couch armrest table in a few easy steps!

Today I introduce a quick-and-easy DIY to make a couch armrest table. Winter is made for cuddling on the couch, watching Romantic Comedies under a fluffy blanket and drinking your favourite hot drink. As wonderful as drinking hot beverages are, you need to put it down once in a while. On my couch, a cup would never stay upright due to the puffy nature of the padding and material, I hated getting up to put it on the table. If you know the struggle of laziness then I am here to help you.

What you will need for this DIY

  • Measuring tape
  • Wood – your choice of wood. For this project I used chipboard available from Builders Warehouse or Builders Express.
  • Sand paper
  • Wood Primer
  • Paint of your choice – I used Plascon Velvaglo.
  • Paintbrush or foam roller
  • Drill
  • Screw Driver
  • Wood Screws

Step-by-step instructions for the couch armrest table

  1. Measure the width of the armrest of the couch using the measuring tape.
  2. Get 3 pieces of wood cut in squares (dependent on the measurements that were taken on your couch) – I asked the shop to cut the pieces of wood for me which saved a lot of time.
  3. Sand the edges down prior to painting.
  4. Prime the wood with wood primer paint – let it dry overnight.
  5. Paint 1 – 2 layers of your coloured paint – let dry overnight again.
  6. Mark where the screws will go. On the top piece of wood, I placed two screws per side – placed 3cm from the edge and 0.8cm in from the edge (this measurement is determined by measuring half of the width of the wood of the down pieces)

  8. Measure the side pieces – 3cm from the edge and half of the width of the wood.
  9. Drill pilot holes in the pieces of wood where you measured.
  10. Screw the screw through the top wood piece into the side wood pieces.
  11. Paint over the top of the screws (if you wish).
  12. I placed a beautiful vinyl from Match Set Love on the corner.
  13. Place over the armrest of the couch and enjoy your hot cup of coffee.
