Kids biscuit recipe: Marie biscuit squares

Marie biscuit squares – Some recipes never get old.  I remember as a kid, buying the chocolate marie biscuit squares at the local fete and on a recent camping trip when a friend pulled out a large tub of the deathly sweet treat, everyone mused over fond memories of their mom baking/assembling a batch of these quick and easy treats.  Needless to say, the large batch was annihilated in seconds and the biscuit recipe shared out between the moms.

These Marie biscuit squares are perfect to pull together with the kids.  Perfect for bake sales, bakers day and kids parties or just to have on hand for when hubby is poking around the pantry, looking for something to satisfy the sweet tooth.

Marie Biscuit Chocolate Squares

  • 250g butter (do not use Margarine as a substitute)
  • 500g icing sugar
  • ½ cup good quality cocoa
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 packet Marie biscuits broken into pieces

  1. Melt the butter in a big pot and when completely melted, take off the heat and add icing sugar and cocoa and mix well.
  2. Now stir in the beaten egg mixture and mix until smooth.
  3. Add the biscuits and fold it in until all the biscuits are covered with chocolate.
  4. Pour out into a pan and flatten the mixture with a spatula.
  5. When it has cooled down, cut into squares and keep in an airtight container.

Serve with a big glass of cold milk and make sure to keep this recipe safe for future generation chocolate lovers!

Hi i made these squares and they cake out so goowee. What did I do wrong? Please help

Hello Donna, aaa, so sorry to hear that. The original recipe was shared by a friend of mine, I double checked with her and she used the exact same one often. Some things to check – did you make use of real butter as it does not work with margarine as substitute also, the butter should not boil, only be melted. Did you remember to add the egg and make use of icing sugar and NOT caster sugar?
