Vintage Nostalgia {Bespoke Blooms}

Tamyrin from Bespoke Blooms recently asked me to pair up with her on styling for a wedding. I was so sad that I had to decline due to other commitments, but this lady did such a great job herself that I am not sure I would have been able to make it any more lovilee, especially the heart floral wreath! Well done on making this vintage affair so memorable and off-course kudos to the very talented Melanie Wessels for the beautiful images.

What Tamyrin had to say about the day
The bride and groom are very involved with nature and the bush. The groom (Gavin) is a professional hunter and nature conservationist and the bride (Julia) has a company called On African Soil that brings students out from overseas who wish to work with animals (rehabilitation centres or conservation programmes etc.). They live on a game farm and are surrounded by nature and the raw beauty of it, and Julia’s request was that we use most of the ‘flowers’ from the bushveld. So, we risked getting bitten by ticks and snakes to cut all sorts of grasses and tree branches and any form of ‘flower’ from the bush.

You really do find beautiful things in amongst the long grasses if you take the time to stop and look. But, using just bushveld would have been too bland, so we needed some pops of colour to bring it all to life. We raided friends and families gardens (and made friends with some strangers that had beautiful flowers in their gardens too) for marigolds, hydrangeas, aloes (and a few things we think were weeds too) and bought very little from the market to add to this.

The exquisitely timeless make-up was done by internationally trained Make-Up Artist Hayley from Hayley Clarke Professional Make-up, who wanted to bring out Julia’s best features which were her big brown eyes while keeping a natural look. Hayley stayed true to the vintage bush veldt theme by using natural olive, gold and charcoal tones to enhance the hazel flecks in Julia’s eyes and used a subtle but sexy nude tone on her lips.

Every last container, vase and ornament was also lent to us by family members (sometimes willingly). After a few good hours of scratching through dusty old cupboards, display cabinets and store rooms in each household and with my hay fever sufficiently aggravated, we had a glorious collection that no bride has ever had (or ever will again, as I had to return the loved nik naks). This made it very special, as a lot of the guests at the wedding could identify something off of the table that they had contributed to complete the wonderful display before them. Even the little brass shoes used were the grooms first pair of shoes he ever wore (Aaah). The only items hired in were the base plates, the wooden rounds used on the table and the crates (all supplied by The Wedding Event).

The lovilee paper cut stationary and vinyl was by Liezel from match Set love and is available from her on-line store here. So what we ended up with was something very proudly South African with a definite vintage nostalgia.
