How did the couple meet?
Gerrit and I met during our student years at the University of Pretoria in 2010. One day Gerrit visited one of my friends, Phia, at our hostel. They invited me to join them for coffee. We didn’t see each other for a couple of months after the coffee session. Phia and I attended our second year dance where Phia set us up on a “blind date”. After three months of dating we officially started dating.

Tell us more about the proposal:
Gerrit and I went to Hartenbos in December 2012, Gerrit had everything planned to the T. He hired a car on the morning of the engagement to take me to Knysna for the day to visit the Knysna Forest and spent the day alone, just the two of us. It started out as one of the coldest and wettest days of our holiday, but turned out to be one of the most romantic and exciting days. The two of us visited the forest where we enjoyed the beautiful sights of nature.

I was walking ahead taking photos of every tree and flower, getting lost in nature’s beauty! I reached a bridge over a little stream and eventually looked up from behind my camera’s lens and when I turned around looking for Gerrit he was on one knee holding the most beautiful ring in his hand. I was so surprised and excited, neither of us got out a word! With the ring on my finger and our arms around each other Gerrit asked me again just to make sure that I actually accepted his proposal and with the biggest smile on my face I shook my head up and down, saying yes about ten times. That is one of my favourite and most cherished moments… Until I walked down the aisle on our big day!

How did you decide on the theme and/or the colour palette?
I have always loved dusty colours like olive green, mint green, mauve and lavender. The colors all complimented each other and worked great with my favourite flowers: roses, lavender and proteas. I then decided the flowers and colors will work beautifully with a rustic, vintage feel and that’s how I decided on the theme and colour palette
