Engaged: Melissa + Hannes {Ian Odendaal Photography}

On this beautiful Good Friday we are thrilled to share the gorgeous engagement session of Melissa and Hannes photographed by Free State based, Ian Odendaal Photography.

How did you two meet? {as told by Melissa}
We met at the University of Pretoria’s first years camp, me a bright-eyed first year and Hannes a senior. On the last evening of the camp Hannes asked me to dance and refused to let me go to bed without me giving him my number. The next day he sent me a bunch of flowers and a huge box of Smaarties. We went on our first date at Harry’s Pancakes on a rainy day in Pretoria. We became best friends, and true love grew… We’ve been dating for 8 years and I am still as amazed with Hannes as I was in the first 8 hours that we met.

Tell us more about the proposal? {as told by Hannes}
For many it takes years, for others it takes months, or weeks, but it took me seconds to realize that Melissa is the one for me. The time that I have known Melissa has flown by and I was just waiting for the right moment to ask her to marry me. I wanted to make the proposal a very special day which she will never forget. After we tried on engagement rings, and I looked at every ring on the internet which possibly exists, I decided to order the ring, at Jack Friedman in Sandton which made Melissa smile the most on the day of trying on.

Melissa thought the weekend was a normal weekend on our family farm, I wanted to surprise her. I carried the ring in my pocket for the whole day, so scared that she might find it. The Saturday afternoon, I suggested we go for sundowners at the river. At the river I convinced Melissa to walk to the middle of the river and sit on a flat rock in the river. I must confess I was nervous because I knew the time was here. I went on my knees and asked Melissa to be my wife.

At first she thought I was joking and laughed, asking me to stand up. I took out the ring and put it on her finger, she couldn’t stop smiling. We then prayed together and before dark went back to celebrate with our family.
