Introducing Consol Glass

As part of our ‘green’ wedding week this week I wanted to focus on a company that’s products we all use, but are seldom aware of. Earlier this year I was fortunate enough to present the Consol Glass mother’s day workshop. Winners could each bring along a mom or partner for a craft experience with Glass only. I must admit that I’ve always heard of the Consol Glass retail outlet in Woodmead, Gauteng, but until then had never set foot in it.

The Woodmead retail outlet underwent a massive revamp at the end of last year with the entire shop layout being changed and re-designed for better flow allowing Consol to stock and display products better. Even more appealing is this modern, industrial chic store provides products in any quantity – single items or bulk purchases. For the trendy Avant-garde shopper, the domestic goddess seeking preserve jars for homemade jams or a mom wanting year-end gifts; there is something on shelf for everyone. One-hundred percent natural and one-hundred percent recyclable, the purity of glass promotes good health, creative inspiration and green living. So for year-end gifts, décor and
packaging solutions that are as red hot as they are ‘green’, the answer can be found in glass.

I was amazed at what I saw! The shop is a truly lovilee retail space and don’t just sell bottles and mason jars, but a variety of other glass products that include drinking glasses, under-plates, bell jars and much more. The most impressive is their Mason Jar Chandelier close to the entrance on the left {as seen above}.

Glass jars and bashews have fast become very trendy at weddings. Be it using recycled jars or brand new ones that you can purchase at most home or food retailers. With Consol being the largest glass manufacturer in Africa I wondered how one knew that one has a Consol product in hand? A Consol product can be identified by a small triangle ’embossed’ near the bottom of each jar. Very interesting. Got me picking up every jar and bottle I could find.

Glass can easily be decorated with vinyl, like these below by Match Set Love or with lace and Hessian. Keeping in mind that you should never use painted jars or lids for edible products. Glass can afterwards be recycled and totally ‘green’ for any special day.
