DIY filled and personalised Christmas baubles

Not all Christmas decorations have to stay as purchased in a store, some can be revamped or modified and re-used year after year. Christmas in our home is a time (and an excuse) for me to get my DIY and craft fix. There is something so beautiful about making ornaments and Christmas tree decorations. These DIY filled and personalised Christmas baubles are so versatile – you can pack anything into them.

Fillable Christmas baubles

I bought the Clear plastic Christmas baubles from Woolworths, but also found empty ones at Westpack Lifestyle and at our local China mall. Use your imagination and have fun with decorating your own. I chose a colour scheme of gold and a touch of green – feel free to add your own touch and personality to each decoration.

You can find most of the crafty pieces you need from stationery stores or art shops such as Herbet Evans in Johannesburg or Deckled Edge in Cape Town. Before you start decorating – make sure the bauble is clean and clear of any grease or sticky fingers that may stop your stickers from adhering to the bauble. The size if the baubles vary but an 8cm or 10cm bauble works best.

Here are some ideas for your Christmas baubles decorations

  • Write your name or surname on the Christmas bauble and fill the empty decoration with strips of paper with small descriptions of the years best memories. This way every year you put up your Christmas decorations up, you can relive the best memories of 2017!
  • Write some festive words on your decoration and fill the inside with an air plant.
  • Bright coloured feathers.
  • Glitter and plastic animals.
  • Chocolates.
  • Photographs.
  • Confetti.
