Making a Valentine’s Day DIY gum ball machine with my Cricut Maker

My kiddos have a market day coming up so I thought it would be suuuuper cute to make these DIY gum ball machines to sell at the market. I made use of my Cricut Maker for this DIY and trust me, it made the DIY kids craft a breeze!

What you will need for this Valentine’s Day DIY?

  • Clear Christmas Baubles that you can open to add sweets
  • Sweets of your choice – the brighter the better!
  • Paper cups in the color of your choice. I used some pink and others red
  • A glue gun
  • Sharp scissors – mine is also the Cricut Brand, they are the best!
  • Bakers Twine or Ribbon of your Choice to tie the tag around the gumball machine
  • Cricut Light Grip cutting Mat
  • Cricut Fine Point Blade – the blade you use most for cutting vinyl, paper and thin card stock
  • Cricut black 0.4mm pen
  • Cricut Cutting Machine
  • Cardstock in the color of your choice. I used pink with the red cups and red with the pink ones

How to use the write then cut function with the Cricut Maker?

The Cricut Pens work with the Cricut Maker, Explore and Joy. It is soooo much fun seeing your creation come to life! All the tags perfectly drawn – I chews you…

  1. Open the Cricut Design Space and find the Design I created here: I Chews You – Valentine’s Day Gum-ball machine DIY.
  2. Make sure that you are using the Light Grip (Light Blue) cutting mat and follow the on screen instructions to place your Cricut Pen in the ‘Clamp A’, the blade will stay in ‘Clamp B’.
  3. Select the Medium card stock option.
  4. Load the mat with the card stock on and press the load button and thereafter the Cricut button when it starts flashing to start the writing and cutting.

PS: If you have a Cricut Joy, Design Space will have you install the pen first. Once the drawing is complete, you’ll be prompted to install the fine point blade thereafter as it only has one Clamp.

How to assemble your Valentine’s Day gum ball machine?

  1. Stick the small heart flag to the side of the paper cup using a glue gun.
  2. Using a sharp scissor make a tiny hole in the top of the paper cup.
  3. Fill the Christmas bauble with sweets.
  4. Attach the bauble to the paper cup using a glue gun.
  5. Add bakers twine to the tag and attach it around the bauble.

What is the Cricut Design Space (DS)?
