Create your own fox cupcakes – cupcake decorating tutorial

Planning a birthday party or are you just looking for a fun activity for the kids? Make your own fox cupcakes by following our cupcake decorating tutorial below that will add smiles all round. You can literally use this decorating steps on any cupcake if your choice whether you use your favourite cupcake recipe, our best ever chocolate cupcake recipe or a premix bpx recipe, choosing will be the hardest part of this tut.

Once your cupcakes have cooled completely you can start icing your cupcakes. Make a batch of buttercream icing (using the recipe lower down) and put 2/3 of the icing into a bowl and put some orange food colouring into it and mix well. Keep the other 1/3 aside as the white icing.

Fully cover the cupcake with orange icing.

Step 1 & 2 decorating fox cupcakes

Place the white icing into a piping bag and pipe two triangles as shown. You can use a palette knife or butter knife to smooth off the white icing.

Step 3 decorating fox cupcakes

Place one choc chip as each eye and one as the nose of the fox.

Step 4&5 decorating fox cupcakes

Place the remaining orange icing in a piping bag and pipe two triangles as the ears.

How to make buttercream icing


  • 140g Softened Butter
  • 500g Sifted Icing Sugar
  • 2-3 Tbsp Milk (or more if dry)


  1. Cream the butter until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the icing sugar and the milk and mix well.
  3. If the icing is too stiff add a little more milk.
