When Oh Happy Day re-launch their blog and website while back, I was one of the lucky people to receive a goodie box filled with some really pretty personalised things! One of these was a tin of delicious macarons and a tea cup, which I was encouraged to make use of whilst reading the new blog. It’s this kind of attention to detail that brides should look for in a wedding planner.
Oh Happy Day is essentially an exclusive wedding / special events styling and design business owned and managed by creative, Joelene Botha. The business is based in KwaZulu-Natal and is perfectly suited to both local and international brides planning a high-end wedding in South Africa, as well as brides who live in Cape Town or Johannesburg looking to get married in KwaZulu-Natal. I recently sat down with Joelene to find out a little bit more about how Oh Happy Day has progressed since the re-launch.
Tell us more about yourself and your company
I am first and foremost a family girl, a wife and a mother to two very cute fur babies. I’m an avid reader who loves traveling and the outdoors and living at the coast. Oh Happy Day was born out of my passion for weddings and celebrating the union of love and marriage. If I’m being brutally honest, being a bridesmaid ten times has certainly added to my infatuation with planning and coordination as well as my love for styling all the loveliness that weddings bring!
The company has grown beautifully in the past year, and recently the business welcomed a team of Lead Planners and interns. Their professionalism, meticulous attention to detail and the passion they share with me for beautiful weddings is what I love most about my team. I couldn’t be prouder about where Oh Happy Day is heading – The future is bright!
What products and/or services do you provide?

Oh Happy Day is wedding planning and design service that combines passion and practical expertise. The business offers a full-on approach which covers engagement proposals, exclusive elopements, on the day wedding coordination and full wedding design, styling and planning packages. Do you have any advice for brides or brides-to-be?
I always suggest that my bridal couples book a Creative Consult in order to best understand their vision and their needs. Because no bridal couple is the same, Oh Happy Day also offers bespoke packages which are determined after our initial creative consult.
As a luxury wedding planning business, Oh Happy Day emphasises both a high level of service and exclusivity. Due to the exceptional attention to detail that is placed on my couple’s overall planning experience, there is a limited amount of bookings that I take on. This is limited to 24 bookings per annum. Some people wonder why I would limit my number of bookings – I do this so that my clients can enjoy the assurance that their wedding has the core focus of my attention, and know that they are receiving a bespoke, exclusive service.
What is your role in the wedding day?
My role in the wedding day is a multifaceted one – I am your friend, your counsellor, your maid of honour, your Personal Assistant and also your wedding planner! In my time as a wedding planner I have driven around to buy a wedding garters, collected a bride’s dress from her designer, sewn a bride back into her dress, look after a bride’s granny who needed help washing her hands, had to make a last-minute bride’s bouquet (after she forgot it at home), and even fixed a wedding cake!

Do you have a favourite colour palette / theme for weddings at the moment?
I try not to have a favourite, because I believe it’s important to be versatile in the face of ever-changing trends. I encourage my brides to not follow the opinions of others but rather follow a look and feel that sets their hearts on fire.
In saying that, I also love pushing creative boundaries and including different textures in one look, so the more ’different’ the better. This past wedding season we have had the opportunity to show the industry how versatile we are as a wedding styling and design business, no wedding look/theme was the same. This is because every couple has a unique love story, and a different vision for their wedding. I think this is the beauty in having a love story designed exclusively for you, by Oh Happy Day.
